About Our Services

The Altered Thread is an in-person, service-based studio. We do not sell or ship physical products. All services — alteration appointments, sewing classes, and private lessons — are delivered in-studio at 1010 Ocean Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11226.

The policies below cover how purchases are handled, when refunds apply, and what to do if something isn't right.

Alteration Services — Payment & Refund Policy

​

When Payment Is Collected Payment for alteration services is collected at pickup — after you have tried on the finished garment and confirmed you are satisfied. We do not charge upfront for alteration work.

​

14-Day Satisfaction Guarantee If your altered garment doesn't fit as expected after pickup, bring it back within 14 days and we will make it right at no additional charge. This applies to all standard alteration services. To initiate a correction, call or text (917) 397-6051 or email info@thealteredthread.com.

 

The guarantee does not apply to:

• Garments that have been washed, dried, or altered by another party after pickup

• Fit changes resulting from changes in the client's body after the fitting

• Rush services where the client waived a fitting appointment

 

Rush Services Rush alteration fees are assessed at consultation and are non-refundable once work has begun. Rush availability is confirmed by phone only — (917) 397-6051.

Multi-Garment Discounts Bundle discounts (10% for 3+ garments, 15% for 5+ garments) are applied at checkout at the time of payment. Discounts cannot be applied retroactively after payment has been collected. Bundle discounts do not apply to rush services.

Sewing School — Enrollment & Refund Policy

​

All course enrollment is processed online through our booking platform. Because our classes are capped at 6 students, a confirmed seat has real impact on availability for others. Please review the policy below before enrolling.

To cancel or transfer your enrollment, contact us at info@thealteredthread.com or call (917) 397-6051 during business hours.

​

No-Shows Students who do not attend without prior notice forfeit their enrollment fee. No refund or credit is issued.

​

If We Cancel a Session If The Altered Thread cancels a scheduled session, enrolled students will be notified at least 48 hours in advance and offered either a makeup session at no additional cost or a prorated refund for the missed session.

​

If We Cancel a Course In the rare event that a course is cancelled in full before it begins, enrolled students will receive a full refund to their original payment method within 5–7 business days.

​

Waitlists Joining a waitlist does not constitute a purchase. No payment is collected for waitlist positions. You will receive an enrollment link when a spot opens — you are under no obligation to complete the booking.

Payment Plans

​

Payment plans are available for select courses, including the Certificate Program, Sewing 101/102, and the Traditional Bangla Blouse & Skirts course. Plan terms are presented at enrollment.

• Installments are processed automatically on the agreed schedule

• Missed installments may result in suspension from the course until the balance is resolved

• Payment plans cannot be combined with promotional discounts unless explicitly stated at enrollment

• Once a payment plan is initiated, the refund schedule above applies based on the first session date

 

Private Lessons

Private lesson packages are non-refundable once sessions have begun. Unused sessions within an active package may be rescheduled with a minimum of 24 hours notice. Packages expire 6 months from the date of purchase.
