Customer Care

At The Altered Thread, every garment is treated with the same care and attention you'd give your own. We are a boutique studio — not a drop-off chain — and that means you work directly with Shanti from your first consultation to your final fitting.

Alteration Services All alteration pricing is based on a starting rate. Your final quote is provided at your in-person consultation, where we assess the garment, fabric, and scope of work together. There are no surprises at pickup.

We offer a 14-Day Satisfaction Guarantee. If your alteration doesn't fit as expected after pickup, bring it back within 14 days and we'll make it right — at no additional charge. We stand behind every stitch.

Sewing School Our courses are capped at 6 students per cohort. This is intentional. It means Shanti works personally with every student in every session. Enrollment is first-come, first-served. When a course fills, a waitlist is automatically activated — join the waitlist and you'll be the first contacted when a spot opens.

Cancellations & Rescheduling

Alteration Appointments We ask for a minimum of 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This allows us to offer your time slot to another client.

Cancellations made less than 24 hours before your appointment may not be eligible for rescheduling at the same priority. To cancel or reschedule, text or call (917) 397-6051 or reply directly to your confirmation email.

Sewing School — Course Enrollment Course enrollment is confirmed upon booking. Because our classes are capped at 6 students, a confirmed seat directly limits availability for others.

— Cancellations made 7 or more days before the first session: full refund or transfer to a future session. — Cancellations made 3–6 days before the first session: studio credit issued for the full amount, valid for 6 months. — Cancellations made less than 72 hours before the first session: no refund. You may transfer your seat to another person.

If The Altered Thread cancels a session, students will be notified at minimum 48 hours in advance and offered a makeup session or prorated refund.

Rush Service Rush alteration requests are subject to availability and confirmed by phone only. Rush fees apply and are non-refundable once the work has begun.

Privacy & Safety

Your personal information is collected solely for the purpose of managing your bookings and communicating with you about your appointments, orders, and classes. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Information We Collect When you book an appointment or enroll in a class through our website, we collect your name, email address, and phone number. This information is stored securely through our booking platform (Wix) and is used only to manage your relationship with The Altered Thread.

Payment Security All online payments are processed through Wix's secure payment infrastructure. We do not store your credit card information on our systems. In-studio payments are processed via our point-of-sale system.

Photography & Marketing We occasionally photograph finished garments and class sessions for use on our website and social media. We will always ask for your consent before featuring your image or your work in any marketing material. Consent given at enrollment applies to the duration of your course unless you notify us otherwise.

Payment Methods

We accept the following payment methods:

  • Credit & Debit Cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover)

  • PayPal

  • Cash (in-studio only)

  • Offline / in-person payment at pickup (alteration services)

 

Payment Plans Payment plans are available for select Sewing School courses, including the Certificate Program. Plan options are presented at enrollment. All installments are processed automatically on the agreed schedule.

Alteration Services Payment for alteration services is collected at pickup — after you have tried on the garment and confirmed you are satisfied with the result.
