Start with Sewing 101. No prior experience is required — the course is designed specifically for complete beginners. You'll leave with foundational machine skills and a finished project.

Every class is capped at 6 students. That's a hard limit, not a guideline. It means Shanti works personally with every student in every session — your questions get answered, your garment gets attention, and your learning isn't lost in a crowd.

Students who complete Sewing 101, Sewing 102, the Pattern Making Intensive, and one Specialty course earn The Altered Thread Certificate of Completion. Your name is added to our Graduate Wall on the website and you receive a printed certificate signed by Shanti.

Course fees cover all instruction and studio time. A supply list is sent with your enrollment confirmation — students are responsible for purchasing their own materials before the first session. Most supplies are available at local fabric stores or online.

Contact Shanti as soon as you know you'll be absent. We'll let you know what was covered and give you a practice exercise to keep you on track. Missed sessions are not individually refunded but we do our best to keep every student moving forward.

Cancellations 7 or more days before the first session receive a full refund. Cancellations 3–6 days before receive studio credit valid for 6 months. Cancellations within 72 hours of the first session are non-refundable but your seat can be transferred to someone else. Full details are on our Refund & Service Policies page.

Yes. Kids Creative Sewing is available for ages 8–12 on Saturdays and Sundays. The course uses age-appropriate machines, covers basic safety, and ends with each child completing a wearable item and a tote bag.

Yes. The Teen Fashion & Sewing Lab is designed for ages 13–18. Students learn machine fundamentals, upcycling, and streetwear basics, and complete two finished garments including a portfolio piece.
